– Lammy

Look around you. What do you see? What do you feel? What do you hear? It’s new music babyyyyy! We launched a new Apple Music Playlist few weeks ago, because we love you and we want you to have first hand updates on some of the beautiful gems to come out of Africa. On this week’s edition, Our Top Picks from all the fresh African music are highlighted below.

KiDi – Spiritual ft. Patoranking, Kuami Eugene (NG)

EMPIRE Africa’s new signee, KiDi released this one right after the announcement of his signage. It’s a groovy love song on which he sings to his muse about how she’s a miracle and how her love his spiritual. He features Patoranking and Kuami Eugene, who both delivered fire verses. I personally love how Kuami infuses a bit of Ghanian language towards the end of the song.

Phaemous – Violet ft. Drayko (NG)

‘My love is violet. Piece, heart broken in silence’…. I think you should properly listen to the lyrics of this song. The drums will sway you, but don’t lose focus. Listen! Especially if your heart is broken. Oops! sorry love.

Rayvanny – Tingisha ft AMINUX (TZ)

Off his new album Sound from Africa, we picked Rayvanny’s Tingisha. The bouncy beat is what caught my attention, by the way. Tanzanians have a way of delivering music that would have you on your feet, dancing or swaying your hips in no time. With the full album, he tried to serve us sounds from Africa quite alright, but I feel like the album does not entirely encompass a wide range of African sounds. E for Effort, though.

Joeboy – Focus (NG)

Joeboy! Joeboy !! Joeboy !!! How many times did I call you? Why this song gotta be so short though? This song is an easy favourite on his new album–Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic. ‘Mo ti moti moti moti moti baby, You drive me crazy……’ On this songs, he talks to his love interest about how she’s not totally receptive of his love and efforts and how he’s finding it hard to deal with.

Terri – Come Around (NG)

Starboy Terri is at it again! And as usual, he has not disappointed. On this new single produced by P. Priime, he sings about his lady whose vibe he is attached to, and how he would choose her all over again. Think Afrobeats with a hint of raggae and ‘pon-pon’ sound.

Femi Kuti – Stop The Hate (NG)

Love me some socio conscious music. The Kutis (Femi Kuti and Made Kuti) have just released a double LP, Legacy+ featuring Femi Kuti’s album ‘Stop The Hate’ and Made Kuti’s album ‘For(e)ward’. The song Stop The Hate talks about how we should come together and make the world a better place before it’s too late.

King Deetoy, Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa – Maruru (SA)

What’s an African playlist without proper House music? Think about it. King Deetoy joins forces with super talented producers DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small to deliver an amazing album titled Petle Petle and Maruru is one of the finest bops on the album.

Psycho YP x Azanti – Focused (NG)

You know this song, don’t you? Yeah, me too. But there’s a new video out nowwwww! YP and Azanti have just dropped the visuals for the promotional song off their Psycho YP & Azanti Vol. 1 EP and it is beautiful.

Vusi Nova – Wena (SA)

Vusi Nova and good music are like 5 & 6. Wena is a soulful song on his new album Ngumama dedicated to his late mom.

Blxckie – Stripes ft Flvme (SA)

Stripes is an interesting hip hop song, by Blxckie featuring his friend Flvme on which they deliver smooth verses on an catchy trap laden beat.
